the original Hot Knife by Demand

This is what your hot knife will look like as it comes out of the box.It works on 110 volts. A 220 volt version is also available. The Demand Products Hot Knife fits comfortably in your hand. It has an easy to operate on/off trigger. You can use the hot knife all day and not get fatigued. Notice the hot knife does not come with a blade.  There are 8 blades from which you may choose. Choose the one that suits you best. There is also the option of creating your own unique blade shape with our sculptor's blade adaptor.

You may choose any one or all of the blades below. I am holding the 4- 1/2'' straight blade.

  • This is the sculptor's blade adaptor. It's my favorite hot wire cutting tool. Every sculptor should have one of these. It allows you the freedom to shape your own blade out of  Demand Hot wire.
With the sculptor's adaptor you get 12'' of flat wire, 2 adaptor prong inserts and an allen wrench to tighten the wire.

  •

The possibilities are endless for unique cuts with the sculptors tool adaptor.  You can cut difficult groove shapes or cut custom picture frame moldings.  You can make blades for special carving needs. Let your imagination run wild. Designs for home decoration or theme parties are a snap with the hot knife with a sculptors blade adaptor attached.

You can bend the wire into shapes like these.

Do not use more than 10'' of Demand Hotwire for any of your designs. I do not use more than 9 inches of hotwire for my custom profiles. The hot knife is not made to handle more than 10'' of wire. The less wire you use the less taxing it will be on your hot knife.

Installing your new Sculptor's blade attachment.

First loosen the 2 screws at the head of your hot knife. They should only be loosened and tightened by hand, never with a screwdriver.

This opens the two holes for the adaptor pins to go in.

These are the adaptor pins that go into the end of your hot knife. Notice one of the pins is of a larger diameter than the other.  Install the pins in the proper holes in the end of your hot knife.

Push the adaptor pins into the holes in the end of the hot knife. Be sure to position the allen screws on the adaptor pins in an accessible position. Tighten the two large head screws finger tight to hold the adaptor pins in place. Do not use a screwdriver to tighten the large screws.

Now here's where the fun comes in . You can shape your hot wire any way you want to. First remove the plastic wrapper from the wire. Next bend the wire carefully and slowly with needle nosed pliers or use the wire bending tool available on our Demand Website. Here I am making a 2 inch diameter loop tool. This design took  7 inches of wire. ( 12 inches of wire comes with the sculptors kit) It might be a good Idea to order an extra foot of wire when you place your order so you will have plenty for other custom blade shapes.
Be sure to make 2 legs coming out of your custom wire shape like the ones shown.  They should be about an inch apart.

Insert the legs of your wire design into the hot knife adaptor pins. Then tighten the allen screws with the wrench provided.  Your custom hot wire cutter is ready for action.

With this particular custom shape I can scoop out large amounts of foam to make bowls, birdbaths, or other hollowed out items. It also makes a great carving tool.

    Putting in a standard blade

Putting  in a standard blade is a simple matter. Remove the sculptor's wire adaptor if it is on your hot knife. Put the large pin of the blade into the large hole in the head of the hot knife. Put the small pin into the small hole. Hand tighten the two locking screws.
     You're done!

Installing the hanging hook on your Hot Knife.

Your hot knife will come with a hook for hanging up your hot knife when it is not in use.

The wire hook will snap into two holes near the base of the hot knife where the cord enters.  Gently spread open the two prongs of the hook and slide them into the holes in the case. You are ready to hang.
